Does anyone remember MySpace? I know I do...
It was a place filled with poorly executed html code. A place where glitter writing and Jim Beam backgrounds was considered tasteful. Where people first exerienced that social network 'buzz' that is now in the hands of facebook and twitter.
It was a beautiful place, where I first experienced the joy of blogging. Mind you, I didn't blog, but I read the blogs of others. Some were self centred and self important, but somehow were still so appealing, others, were just plain fiction, but so very entertaining, like the tales of the Ivy League Ninja's.
But then that original content started to be replaced by pre-made 'quizzes' and '99 questions about me' entries. And then the Hacker-Spammers came, pushing their "$99 televisions" and "great deals on GENUINE gold jewellery".
MySpace was a revolution, but like all things of our generation it was short lived. Because someone came with something bigger, and better, and sleaker, and one by one the users switched, and now for MySpace all is lost.
I wonder what the next 'big thing' will be? and when it will be? and if the current market leaders will be able to be on board when it happens, or whether they, like their predecessors will be blown out of the water by another grand new approach?
I suppose what I get from all of this, is that the internet is such an amazing thing, in the fact that if you have an idea, and you can put in into action, YOU could be the operator of the next MySpace, or facebook, or Google, or Youtube.
The cyber-frontier is a wild, untamed place with still untapped resources, all at the tip of our fingers... So get out there and saddle up!!!
